Use our CV writing guide to create an accountancy or finance CV which stands out from the crowd.
With the recession in full swing, times are very difficult and making sure your CV gets noticed is even more important than ever! The accountancy recruitment consultants at Sue Rees Associates have put together a few ideas to help you.
- Many job hunters have CVs far too long because they repeat tasks and accomplishments for every job. You can shorten your CV by eliminating duplicate entries. Ideally use no more than 2 pages 3 at most: employers are easily bored!
- Don't preface the CV with a descriptive statement. Let the facts speak for themselves, and the employer be the judge of your capabilities.
- Another way to improve your CV is to get rid of paragraphs. Do not use paragraphs they are great in your profile section, but should not be used throughout your CV. Use bullets to create a more readable CV. Always keep in mind that a recruiter normally scans through hundreds of CVs and should be able to identify the main points within 30 seconds.
- Ensure all dates link up; leave no suspicious gaps. If you were out of work for a period, or travelling, include it as a stage in your history.
- Write employer's name and location in bold type. Employers often select for interview by identifying with companies that are known to them.
- Use your last title in each position, also in bold type.
- Briefly describe the company's business and size
- Write no more than a few lines about the job content and responsibilities. If appropriate, show how you progressed from one position to the next. Highlight one or two achievements after every job.
- Ensure all spelling is correct. Don't trust computer spell-checkers.
