Mobile apps for Finance Professionals
With the growing use of smart phones (iPhone, Blackberry or Android), it makes sense for us to get smarter at using them. So how can we make the best of these devices?
Alongside phone calls, texts and camera, many of us use phones for web surfing and emails. Finance professionals can also tap into a great number of applications (‘apps’) which put invaluable tools at your fingertips. While some City firms are going so far as having apps developed themselves, most of us can find what we need from existing software.
We know our clients are busy people so we have pulled together a short-list of the apps which we think could be most useful to you.
- Make meetings virtual
Software from WebEx allows you to join conferences anywhere via your phone.
- Be better prepared for your meetings
With FinancialForce Mobile you can link into your accounting software to check on KPIs, invoices (receivable and payable) and bank balances.
- Improve your team’s sales process
Oracle have iPhone apps for customers with Oracle software to streamline the sales process, as does Salesforce.com. These apps gives sales people access to important information and allow sales managers to sign off proposals
- Monitor company finances and manage payroll on the move
A QuickBooks app will let you view key metrics for QB Enterprise, Premier and Pro and iPAYE and iPayslips help you calculate PAYE.
- Create financial ratios
With Finance Formulator, you can track debt ratios, asset utilisation, bond yields and a host of other performance metrics and, if you can’t quite remember which is what, you might like to try the Finance Glossary
- Track expenses
XpenseTracker or iXpenseit allow you to record expenses, photograph receipts and automatically backs up your data.
- Keep track of the stock markets
A combination of Reuters, the FTSE and Wall Street Journal will keep you up to speed with stock market developments while Mirae Asset Management provides updates on emerging markets
- Monitor business news
Bloomberg have an app to provide you with a concise summary of what is happening in business throughout the World and the FT gives another perspective
Of course, your personal requirements and preferences will make a difference to the apps you choose and the way you use them. If you would like to find out more about the apps we have picked out, or some of the other apps which are available, please click on the links below.
